Thark Design

As crazy as this sounds, Pixars next film is going to be for adults- and it takes place on mars!  The story John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs is a classic sci fi full of aliens and strange beasts and sexy red skinned chicks.  The main inhabitants (whom John Carter encounters after arriving on the mysterious world) are 15 foot tall four armed barbarians called Tharks.  These are my design concepts for what I'd like to see them as.

...AND NOW, just for you Owen... and maybe a little for my own pleasure

Oregon Dogs Inc

A client of mine had me shoot her upscale doggy daycare/self wash center in West Linn.  She noticed that other businesses had terrible photographs of their location on their website so she hired me to give the site a  fresh look.  Here is a header I designed for her from images I shot at her business.

Sketches

Here are some ink wash sketches of fantasy based stuff.  I have this toned paper journal that I am trying to fill up with this stuff, so here are a few but more are on the way.

Waterfall 2010

Here are shots of waterfalls in the Columbian Gorge that I took this year.

Chipped

For our 3D design class final we were to cast 10 plaster sculptures from a silicon mold that received it's initial shape from a clay sculpture.  Mine was of a eerie trippy tree.  After a discussion in class about the mountains of Italy and their current condition due to years of mining for art I got the idea to slowly chip the piece down to nothing but a mound and then have a single sprout coming up.  A sort of symbol for hope against all the destructive nature of the artist, using endless paper and materials from the earth just for art-sake.  I wanted to show that despite all the mining, the message inspires a generation that help fight global destruction of the planet.  So in this case.. it's worth it.

I named the piece CHIPPED referring to how we chip the environment away to obtain the look we want from it.

A few old designs

Here are some examples of what I can do in photoshop using vectors and other tools
